Baby Isabelle wears bumgenius cloth diapers. Many of the experienced parents we spoke with before Isabelle arrived laughed at the thought of using cloth diapers. Cloth diapers were thought of as a nice thing to save the planet but WAY too much work. Not true in our experience. We actually found using bumgenius cloth diapers to be not much more difficult than buying then bringing thousands of disposable diapers out to the trash can every week. We wouldn’t do it any other way.

I bought a regular diaper pail that I’m going to use for my cloth ones and use a tote to line it. You can toss the tote in the wash too but just not at the same time.
My mindset is money first so the cloths were a must. I’ve cloth diapered two boys so far and now they come out with all in ones that I can’t wait to try.

emmad, I think I like MotherEase. I just got my first one and it looks great. I’ve ordered some BumGenius too. How are the MotherEase?
You can also wash the Imse Vimse liners with the rest of the diapers and reuse them. They will hold up to about 3 washes before falling apart. Of course, we only do this on wet liners (not poopy ones).
We also use a wipe warmer – I know, seems like a bit much. But, it keeps the cloth wipes moist and ready to use. They need to be used with either a store bought or homemade wipe solution, so they remain bacteria free.
This is what I have heard also and am planning on doing..especially where I exclusively breast feed my children..makes it much better and NO buying extras!:)
We got 30 diapers for our little girl. We’re going to try an additional 12 diapers from Kelly’s Closet now that we’re expecting our second.
Since we will still need to wash every two days (don’t want too many dirty diapers hanging around), we’re going to get another diaper pail since one baby seems to fill up the diaper pail in 2 days or so.

Using baby washcloths as wipes is great. It makes more sense than using disposable ones because cloth wipes can go in the wash with the rest of the diaper. Most cloth diaper companies are selling their own washcloths to use as wipes, which are higher quality, but the simple 12 pks from Wal-Mart do the job much cheaper.
Haha, that’s exactly what we use as a diaper pail as well.
We’ve used MotherEase mostly. But are enjoying fitted all-in-one pocket diapers like this now. We use Fuzzibunz right now.
I think your video helped convince me to purchase a drying rack for when our baby comes. We will be using the bumgenius 3.0 pocket diapers as well. This also helped me see that using baby wash cloths are also good for reusable wipes. I was wondering about using them. Thank you so much!

We didn’t bother with liners. The first 6 months (before the baby starts eating solids) you can toss all the diapers into the dry pail (solid waste and all) until it is time for wash.
At wash time, I dump the pail into the washing machine. Everything comes out completely clean, we’ve had no problem and it’s really easy. Once baby started solid foods, we were able to just shake the solid (now formed) waste into the toilet.

Thank you. This was needed. I wish the manufactures would post this on their website. It’s very informative and what most people need to make their decision on switching to cloth diapers. It’s a big deal and I was unsure of going “Green” with my diapers until seeing your video.

This is great! Thanks so much for sharing. I’m due in September and my husband is hesitant to use cloth as we’ve received negative comments from other parents urging us to use disposable. I can’t believe the resistance we get to using cloth. It is better for your baby, better for the environment and cheaper. It’s really a no-brainer.

I’ve been a little overwhelmed so I’ve been using Seventh Gen disposables, and I feel terrible since I had always planned on using cloth diapers. thanks for the video. I hope it encourages others to give cloth a try. We also use BG cloth diapers and we LOVE them! We have about 20 diapers. I wash them every 2-3 days. 1 cold water cycle and 1 hot water cycle. I always dry mine in the dryer for 1 hour. I pre “stuff” the diapers when they come out of the dryer. I’ve bought and used some other one size cloth diapers and have found that I am most happy with the bum genius.

The diapers and inserts dry overnight, but we live in Colorado where the air is pretty dry. (Your milage may vary.)
We got the drying rack from Target, and the covered “diaper pail” from Wal-Mart. We really shopped around to cobble together our strategy, but it really is working great.
At Babies R Us they only have diaper pails and supplies for disposable diapers feeding into the idea that cloth diapers are viewed as “not really a viable option” by current standards.
I was wondering how long it takes for the BG diapers to dry the the drying rack and was also wondering where you got your drying rack from?
